Filipstad is one of the world's most mineral-rich areas. In 2005, 267 different minerals were found in Långban, 15 kilometres north of Filipstad. Even today, a number of new finds are being made and the nature is clearly characterised by its historical charm and the area is adorned by mines, smelters, mining lava and water wheels. The latter were used to power mine pumps and other things needed to drive the mine.

Yes, Filipstad and the surrounding area is undeniably known for its rich mineral history. From the Middle Ages until 1906, iron ore was mined in the area, which left traces and in addition to the remains of huts and earth huts, there is still a memorial stone that reminds us of the mining era and its ups and downs.

1 kilometre from the campsite you will find the Högbergsfältet mining area. Here you can visit Kalhyttan's activity centre or go skiing at Dammhöjden. At Högbergsfältet you will find some of the oldest mines in Värmland. The area contains 15 mines, including the Torskebäcks mine at a depth of 215 metres. The mine opening is about 25-30 metres above Lake Yngen. Högberget is now a nature reserve that works to preserve the area's unique environment and the place is a grateful area for those who like to hike. If you can't get enough of mining history, you can walk along the Silver Trail. The trail forms the road between the smelter and the Hornkullen silver mine, which today is a monument to Swedish mining history.
