Description
This scenic, yet central campsite, located in Bohuslän and more specifically Tanums municipality. In addition to being close to all the well-known tourist paradises of Grebbestad, Smögen, Fjällbacka and more, Tanums camping & stugby is also next door to Europe's largest rock carving area and the associated museum and Bronze Age village. From the campsite you can take a short walk to reach some of the most famous rock formations.
Tanums Camping & Stugby is a quiet campsite that is perfect for large groups. On site you'll find a meeting room, barbecue facilities and even a dance floor. The campsite is happy to help organise group trips, camp schools and school trips with various activities that you can find around northern Bohuslän.
Here you will find both cabins, tent pitches and camping pitches for both caravans and motorhomes located in a scenic and quiet environment near Tanum's centre where shops and services are available.

As mentioned earlier, the most famous attraction in the neighbourhood are the rock carvings. These fascinating creations, made as far back as the Bronze Age, constitute a vast archive of images in tribal format. Today, more than 1,500 carving sites are known, containing over 10,000 figures. These are interpreted by experts as early symbolic art where the motifs and placements were well planned by their creators.
You will also find Vitlycke Museum next to the carvings, which is a knowledge and experience centre located in the middle of Tanum's World Heritage Site. From here you can walk with a guide in the area or wander freely between the various rocks and interpret the unique carvings in your own way. Of course, the museum itself also has a café and a shop where you can buy a souvenir or two.
The guided tours can be a worthwhile feature for both the smaller and larger group. book anything from a shorter introduction of 30 minutes to a long guided tour of 4 hours where you get the chance to visit several petroglyphs that are further away from the tourist routes.
Not to be missed is that the facility is located as a centre point near all the delights of the coast. About 1 mile from Tanums camping & stugby you will find the old fishing village of Grebbestad, which today is a real holiday paradise during the summer months. Here you will find several swimming opportunities, shopping, as well as various boat trips where you can try fishing, crab fishing or why not go on a seal safari?
If you continue down the coast, you will find another well-known old fishing village, Fjällbacka. Here you will find a nice seafront promenade with bars and restaurants. In addition to boat trips, you can also visit the King's Gorge. It was here that Ronja Rövardotter was partly filmed, an appreciated visit for both young and old. Further along the coast are several more cosy villages that are also worth visiting such as Hamburgsund, Hunnebostrand etc. Finally, Smögen is reached, which is probably the most well-known village in northern Bohuslän. Here you can experience everything from the sea to long party nights, all to your liking.
